GM to retool factory for new Impala
Tue, 28 Aug 2012General Motors plans to idle the plant where it assembles the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid for four weeks starting next month to retool for production of the all-new 2014 Impala and a small number of 2013 Malibus. GM will close its Detroit-Hamtramck plant from Sept. 17 until Oct.

The works shown are based on a wide range of vehicle concepts and brands. The' Professional day', which is an annual event, was also hosted on the exhibiition opening evening with graduating students, professors and professional designers from the automotive industry.

After years of trying to propel Acura into the front ranks with Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Lexus, Honda says it will settle for offering mid-level premium vehicles that favor fuel economy over performance. With one exception: At the Detroit auto show in January, Honda will bring back the Ferrari-fighting Acura NSX--a new version of the mid-engine supercar that disappeared in 2005 after a 15-year run.
