This is a 1962 Chevy 327. The part number is 3782870 and the date code is D 14 2. 1962 blocks are not that common. This does not have any stampings on the deck pad. It is a bare blank pad. There is an aluminum tag on the front of the block, just below the pad. Maybe this was a dealer replacement block from the parts dept? Or maybe it went to a rebuilder, had the deck shaved down, and the tag added with the rebuilder's information on it? I could not find anything out about the tag, so you are welcome to do your own research on it.

The bores are really nice, with very light even surface rust that will clean up nice, and no ridge. The main caps are unfortunately not all here for it. I just have the bare block with the cam in it, and the few miscellaneous parts in the last photo that were in the same storage area, but I am not sure if they go with this engine or not. The two dowel pins that mount the transmission have rusted and are partly eaten away, but the rest of the block has no rust or apparent physical damage. This is a good place to start for a numbers-correct rebuild.

I was asked if this is a small journal or large journal. I believe all SBC blocks were small journal prior to 1967-68, which would make it a small journal.

Tesla can swap the batteries on a Model S in just 90 seconds The Tesla Model S was built from the start to offer battery swap as an alternative to a recharge. And now it’s become a reality. When Better Place revealed their plans – in conjunction with Renault – to offer Battery Swap technology we applauded it as a sensible way to make electric cars a more sensible mainstream option.

BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé revealed ahead of debut at 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este

Fri, 24 May 2013

The BMW Gran Lusso Coupe by Pininfarina revealed ahead of Villa d’Este Or at least it still does if you expect the new 8 Series to look like a two-door version of the next generation 7 Series, rather than a completely individual model like the old 8 Series. Underpinning the Gran Lusso Coupe is the same platform the 7 Series uses and the same V12 from the 760i, which makes it both easier to bolt the Gran Lusso together and imagine it as future production model. The exterior of the Gran Lusso looks a bit like a coachbuilt version of a big BMW coupe, with most of the BMW design cues intact – if sharpened somewhat – with short overhangs and a long wheelbase.

BMW ActiveE: Electric BMW 1-Series at Geneva

Thu, 10 Feb 2011

BMW 1-Series Electric - BMW ActiveE It’s been a while since we first saw the BMW ActiveE, the BMW 1-Series with the gubbins from the MINI E bolted under the bonnet (and various other places) and intended as the next instalment in BMW’s plans to charge its customers to do real-world development and research. In fact, the electric BMW 1-Series first crossed our radar in December 2009 and went on to be shown as a concept at the Detroit Motor Show a month later. And now it’s back at the Geneva Motor Show in March, only now it’s production-ready.
