First look: 2014 BMW M3 and M4
Wed, 11 Dec 2013The BMW M3 is back, faster and more powerful than ever before -- but only as a four-door sedan. For its iconic 3-series-based performance model, BMW will dispense with a 26-year tradition of high-revving naturally aspirated engines in lieu of turbocharged six-cylinder power. Revealed here in production-car guise for the first time, the new 425-hp M3 sedan will be joined at the outset by its sister model, the M4 -- a mechanically identical but stylistically sleeker two-door coupe previewed in lightly veiled concept-car form at the Pebble Beach concours in California last August.
EBay exotic: Pristine GMC Motorhome
Thu, 10 May 2012This eBay listing for a 1976 GMC Motorhome started making the rounds on Twitter on Wednesday. These Oldsmobile-powered, front-wheel-drive land yachts are among the only truly beloved vintage motor homes. While other highway dinosaurs succumb to leaky windows and mounting repair bills before spending decades rotting next to garages and barns, a good many of these old GMCs have been maintained in good working order or restored.
Ford Fiesta eWheelDrive gets wheel hub electric motors
Sat, 27 Apr 2013The Ford Fiesta eWheelDrive – a driveable research vehicle built by Ford and German specialists Schaeffler – may be a regular supermini in size, but it points towards a potential future EV which is much more compact and very manoeuvrable. Ford has taken a regular Fiesta and dumped its powertrain, replacing it with a battery bank where the engine would be and fitted a pair of in-hub electric motors on the rear wheels. But the plan is to build new cars with the batteries under the floor which frees up the space under the bonnet which can then be all but removed to create a very compact urban car that still has space for four.
