A melting pot for innovative ideas, the conference featured enlightening presentations from some of the world's leading designers, all revolving around the theme 'Intelligent Design for Tomorrow's World'. I’ve had to concede that maybe it’s not entirely realistic to want a petrol V8 in every car I drive, and there are now some very convincing diesel lumps around. They don’t sing like a good petrol lump, but the big wodge of torque most have really does go a very long way to compensate.

You can already get wi-fi from tens of thousands of places round the UK – and many of them free or bundled up with your mobile bill – and soon you’ll be able to have your own WLAN in your car if you rush out and get the new Audi A8. Audi are installing a WLAN system in the 2010 A8 which will effectively create a wi-fi hotspot within the car for passengers.
