Named after the Phoenix platform underpinning many of the company's future products including next year's new 9-3, the concept car is a dramatic coupe. The road-going iQ keeps almost all of the 2007 Frankfurt concept’s great packaging – half a metre shorter than a Fiat 500 at 2985mm – but still housing four seats, three for adults and one behind the driver for a child or luggage (there’s no conventional boot space).

Administrator PKF (UK) LLP has spent the past month clarifying the assets of Blackpool Automotive Ltd, the company that ran the Blackpool factory, and it in fact holds several trump cards that could prevent the Russian owner switching production overseas. The sale advert in the Financial Times reveals that Blackpool Automotive controls the TVR trademark in Europe and the US, as well as all the intellectual property rights and tooling for the sports cars.
