Pictured here beneath the next Chevrolet Malibu, the modular front- and all-wheel drive architecture will also underpin the Vauxhall Vectra and Saab's new 9-3 and 9-5. GM is grouping its core models to save cash, and harmonising production processes so that plants can churn out multiple models according to demand.

Volvo released a few lighthearted videos this month of lab-coat-wearing engineers unboxing the new V60 diesel hybrid wagon. Unboxing is the Internet practice of filming when opening a new product—or taking it apart, such as an Apple iPod. We first saw the V60 at the 2011 Geneva motor show, and then this year in Detroit.

The new MINI Crossman caught testing at the Nurburgring [ad#ad-1] Yes, the MINI has become ubiquitous ( to its detriment), and sales have fallen off, despite the plethora of variations on the market. But that’s not stopped BMW from pushing on with the MINI Crossman, which has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring this week. But, although I’ve moaned that MINI has lost its way of late, this particular MINI, odd though it may sound in concept, could be a real winner.
