Needs restoration - some pitting, a broken bolt, and one bent bow
Brand:Corvette Country/Region of Manufacture:United States Surface Finish:Black paint

This is a convertible top frame assembly taken off of a 1962 Corvette.  The interchange I found for this shows it will fit the '61 and '62 Corvettes.  This one has been sandblasted and painted, but it need to be redone.  The rust pits were not filled in before it was repainted, so it needs to be sandblasted, taken apart, repaired, repainted, and reassembled again.  Among the repairs that need to be done is one of the bolts is broken and will need to be drilled out and replaced with a new bolt - see picture #3.  There are a few pin holes in the bracket that holds the next to last bow on the passenger's side that need to be welded up with either a mig or a tig welder - see picture #4.  The first bow behind the header (the one that is about a 1/2" in diameter) is slightly bent and has some rust pitting on it - see picture #6 for a close up of the rust pitting on that bow.  That bow will need to be heated up, straightened, and some rust pits welded up on it.  Most of the rust pitting is on the passenger's side.  For some reason the driver's side looks good, but the passenger's side frame has a lot of pitting - see picture #7 for a close up of the pitting.  However, the header bow is in good shape, it looks like it has been replaced, maybe when the frame was sandblasted and painted.  I've restored a few convertible tops and the header bow is almost always bad, so it was nice to see that this one was still in good shape.  That will save money on the restoration of the top because new header bows run around $600.  Other than the things I listed above, a restoration of this will most likely mean replacing all the bolts, felt, and rubber with new parts, but you would want to do that before installing a new top on an old frame anyway.  If you are in the Henderson, NC area and would like to inspect the frame before bidding, feel free to contact me and we can work something out.  Please contact me if you have any questions and thanks for looking.

Lincoln to replace waterfall grille

Mon, 26 Sep 2011

Love it or hate it, Lincoln's waterfall grille is on the way out, according to sources familiar with plans for the updated MKS sedan and MKT crossover coming next spring. One source said the MKS and MKT grille will be "completely different" from the current grille, which has been controversial. He said the new grille is "not as pronounced" as the waterfall and "more elegant." Ford might show the revised MKS and MKT at the Los Angeles auto show in November, says a Ford source.

CES: New cars and communists

The first day of the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show featured one new Ford, two new Kias and a plug for communism from the head of Mercedes-Benz. So, yeah, it was an eventful first day. After its new 2013 Fusion plug-in hybrid was named Car of the Show--following previous such distinctions for the Focus electric and the Taurus--Ford CEO Alan Mulally pulled the cover off the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

MINI John Cooper Works Paceman: The hot MINI Countryman Coupe arrives

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

The new MINI Paceman has been given a range-topping model in the guise of the 140mph MINI John Cooper Works Paceman. Debuts at Detroit 2013. The Paceman JCW gets a convincing setup, with the same 1.6 litre 216bhp 1.6 litre as the Countryman JCW which delivers 207lb/ft of torque – and an extra 14lb/ft from an overboost – enough to send the Paceman JCW to 62mph in 6.9 seconds and on to 140mph (139mph in the auto, not that it matters as performance is the same otherwise).
