Up for auction is an ORIGINAL Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, number 7040273, in restored condition. This carburetor has been completely disassembled, solvent cleaned and then ultrasonically cleaned, some parts have been replaced with new or replated as closely as possible to original colors. After cleaning, the body appeared to have about 90% of its ORIGINAL FACTORY FINISH, so was not stripped and re-dyed. You hardly ever find them in this nice a condition any more, still nice and bright, almost NOS. This carburetor was originally used on the 1970 Pontiac GTO when equipped with the optional Ram Air III or Ram Air IV engines and manual transmission, with the 49-states federal emissions (not for California). It was the ONLY carburetor used on the 1970 Trans Am with manual transmission with Federal emissions. It was the ONLY carburetor used on the 1970 GTO Judge with manual transmission and Federal emissions, even when equipped with the 455HO engine (I have personally found one taken from a 70 Judge with 455HO engine). The metering components are stock, and as follows: 70 jets, 39 primary rods, CC secondary rods. Note the nearly NOS YELLOW and BLACK plastic, NOT PAINTED choke pulloff (vacuum break). Has the original RP and number 38842 on the front – the common Delco service replacement ones were gold or beige and have number 32768, and the repro white ones have no numbers or RP. The yellow/black one is correct for most all 1970 Pontiac Ram Air carburetor production. I can provide pictures of several unmolested original 7040273 and 7040270 carburetors with these CPO’s still on the carburetors. I have personally restored several of these carburetors myself. It is about impossible to find one of these original CPO’s today. The bright yellow weathers to a darker almost orange over time. I sold one of these carburetors last year with a NOS yellow/black CPO. Variations of these yellow CPO’s were also used on the Buick GSX, Olds W30-31 and Chevy LS-5 carburetors for 1970. The very latest production of this carburetor may have used the common metal two-port CPO found on all other 1970 Pontiac quadrajets. Some differences between these Ram Air carburetors and the more common Pontiac quadrajets: the idle restrictions and upper channel restrictions are larger providing a greater range of idle mixture adjustment towards the rich range. The primary throttle plates have 0.125 inch holes drilled in them. These changes permit the carburetor to idle properly and retain good drivability with the more aggressive Ram Air IV camshaft. The inlet threads are perfect and the original nut holds securely. The primary throttle shaft has been fitted with bronze bushings, although the shaft as found had very little wobble. All fuel well plugs in the bowl have been sealed with MT-13 industrial grade epoxy. This carburetor is stamped 7040273 WC 1040 and is an original OEM factory carburetor that was manufactured by Rochester on April 14, 1970 and installed on a production vehicle. It has the stock 67-71 Pontiac throttle shaft/lever assembly, you can purchase a repro bolt-on throttle lever from several of the repro parts dealers for $25-40, depending on exact style and application. New components include float, inlet needle/seat, fuel filter, gaskets, choke pulloff (as previously described) and alcohol resistant accelerator pump with blue cup. This carb has the divorced choke setup, and requires a choke coil located on the intake manifold, correct for 1968-70 Pontiac engines. FREE insured shipping in the continental USA via UPS ground. No shipping outside the USA or to AK and HI. High bidder to pay within seven days after end of the auction and shall contact me by email within 3 days after end of the auction. A very hard to find, concours quality carburetor, guaranteed to be an original, perfect for your $50K to $100K frame-off restored Judge or 1970 Trans Am. High starting bid, but I have a LOT of $$$ in the core. These were not made on very many dates during the model year, due to limited production of the Ram Air models, so it is common for the carburetor build dates and vehicle build dates to be spread somewhat greater than on the non-Ram Air models. This carburetor should be numbers matching correct for car build dates from 3RD week of April 1970 to end of 1970 model year production.  I will ship this in an original Delco-Rochester box with proper inserts then place this box in an outer protective box.  Note this box is not the original box for this carburetor model, but was for a model of similar style and vintage.

Will consider all reasonable offers, no lowballs please.  Need to sell this and one other restored 67 GTO carb will be listed soon, trying to retire.

Nissan Murano Diesel – finally

Tue, 16 Mar 2010

The Nissan Murano is to get a diesel option from September The Nissan Murano is the Qashqai’s big brother, just as the soon to arrive Nissan Juke is the baby. But the Murano often tends to get overlooked because it seems like it doesn’t really belong in Europe. It feels – and looks – a bit like a Crossover designed for the US with its blingy looks and petrol only V6 (from the old 350Z).

Bene! Meet the SRT Viper GTS Sons of Italy edition

Fri, 16 Aug 2013

It seems automakers will badge-engineer anything to create special editions that do little for the benefit of the brand or for society. That's not the case for this uniquely swathed SRT Viper GTS whose color and its reason for being are truly noteworthy. This bellissima beast was created to benefit the Sons of Italy Foundation, a cause near the heart of parent company Fiat.
