Tata Nano (2008): first official pictures

Thu, 10 Jan 2008

By John Sootheran First Official Pictures 10 January 2008 09:33 Shove over a bit Henry Ford, Ferry Porsche and Alec Issigonis, because as of this morning there's a new entrant for the People's Car Hall of Fame. The first day of the Indian Auto Expo 2008 in Delhi, saw Ratan N Tata (yes, the fella who's leading the bid for Jaguar and Land Rover) reveal his much vaunted 'one lakh' car (that's 100,000 rupees or a measly £1300). Despite being the Chairman and CEO of one of the world's biggest corporations, Ratan Tata admits to being a nervous presenter, so much so, that the initial information was presented by his hologram! When he did appear, it was behind the wheel of one of three 'one lakh' cars being driven onto the stage. The 3000-strong audience of press and VIPs went beserk amid scenes of euphoria last witnessed at the Clinton comeback in New Hampshire.

Fiat 500X teaser video ahead of 2014 Paris motor show

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

Fiat has issued this Youtube video of its new 500X crossover, which is destined to launch the Italian brand into the compact SUV market dominated by the Nissan Juke. Although an annoyingly restricted view of the 500X, it is possible to make out the silhouette and outline of the baby crossover, which goes on sale in the UK in time for the new 15-reg launch in March 2015. See the Fiat 500X in full at the 2014 Paris motor show on 2 October – we’ll have the first official photographs and news the moment the covers come off.

New Datsun makes its first appearance

Mon, 01 Jul 2013

The first new Datsun in a generation )pictured) will be revealed on July 15th As we reported in 2012 Nissan, having spent countless hundreds of millions replacing the Datsun name with Nissan on its cars a generation ago, decided to revive the Datsun brand for a new range of affordable cars for emerging markets. It looks like the new Datsun – codenamed K2 – will be a mix of the current and last generation Micra with new styling and pitched at around £3500 when it launches in the Indian car market. With the same – but de-tuned – 1.2 litre petrol engine as the Micra, the new Datsun is aimed at cars like the Indian market Hyundai i10 and Maruti, and sales are expected to start in early 2014.
