GM preps for new engines, 8-speed transmission

General Motors is spending $332 million to upgrade powertrain plants in three states to build a new eight-speed automatic transmission, a new V6 and a new family of small-displacement gasoline engines. The plants are in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. GM is also adding $46 million to an earlier $600 million program to upgrade powertrain plants in Saginaw and Romulus, Mich.

The 2014 Facleift for the Dacia Duster in Europe (*pictured) has been revealed The UK hasn’t had the Dacia Duster for very long, mainly because it was selling so well in Europe Renault couldn’t manage to build right hand drive versions. And it looks like much the same scenario will play out with the Dacia Duster facelift – revealed today in full before Frankfurt – with it rolling out in Europe but with no immediate plans to bring it to the UK. Peter Arcadipane has joined BAIC as its new design director. Based at its new hi-tech design facility in Beijing, China, he oversees a team of around 130 designers. The Australian designer, formerly of Mercedes-Benz, has been challenged to steer state-owned BAIC towards a more coherent and strategic position within China, with its chairman wanting to take the carmaker more upmarket.
