Toyota smashes electric car lap record at Nurburgring

Toyota has set a new electric car record at the Nurburgring – with a silent but speedy 7min 47.794sec lap of the Nordschleife. You can watch the record lap in our video above. From black-and-white photographs of some of rock and roll's greatest performers to thoughtful, provocative portrayals of the automobile, Jim Marshall captured enduring images of two of America's greatest passions. Now, for the first time since he died earlier this year, some of his original photographs will be auctioned to benefit his favorite charity, MSFriends. Two portfolios of Marshall's work from the launch of Nissan's iconic GT-R supercar will be sold at a July 24 fundraiser called Rock for MS at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

Ford opens online reservations for the 2012 Focus electric

People can now place their online orders for the 2012 Ford Focus electric, Ford's first all-electric passenger car. The electric Focus carries a base sticker price of $39,995 including shipping charges, but that price does not reflect any tax credits available. The electric Focus comes standard with MyFord Touch with an eight-inch touch screen, two 4.2-inch color LCD displays in the gauge cluster for EV monitoring screens, and the MyFord Mobile App for remotely monitoring the charge status of the lithium-ion battery.
