GM transplants Chevrolet Volt technology into the Cadillac ELR hybrid

One of the headliners of the 2009 Detroit auto show, the Cadillac Converj concept, will become production reality. Cadillac confirmed some details on Wednesday afternoon and said that the coupe will be called the ELR. It will use a T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack, and a generator kicks on to extend range, similar to the Chevrolet Volt.

Up until now these auto-brake features have not been rated, but ahead of a new 2014 test that will include AEB systems in its overall safety star scoring, Euro NCAP has put the some of the vehicles already equipped with this technology through their paces. Mercedes-Benz USA is holding prices steady on the first two models of the new generation M-class crossover. The 2012 ML350 4Matic starts at $49,865, unchanged from the 2011 model. The ML350 BlueTec 4Matic diesel starts at $51,365, also unchanged.
