Britain to be third global production site for the Nissan Leaf EV after Japan, U.S.
Thu, 18 Mar 2010Nissan Motor Co. said it will build the new Leaf electric vehicle at Britain's Sunderland assembly plant starting in early 2013, with initial capacity of 50,000 units. The Japanese company and its French alliance partner Renault will invest more than $642.6 million in the project, including the construction of a lithium ion battery plant on the site.

Ever since Jaguar’s Brand Director Adrian Hallmark said that Jaguar needed a crossover there’s been much speculation (from Cars UK just as much as elsewhere, we confess) that a Jaguar SUV is in the planning, despite Land Rover’s pre-eminence in the field. But it looks like we should have listened more carefully to Adrian Hallmark, who actually said Jaguar “…need a crossover and we need to stop being a saloon-based company.” We all leapt on the ‘stop being a saloon-based company’ bit as confirmation an SUV is planned when Adrian actually meant a crossover and not a full-blown SUV.
Smart's $99 loan deal has big balloon payment at end
Mon, 06 Jul 2009Hoping to benefit from the federal cash-for-guzzlers program, Smart USA has set up a $99 monthly payment for buyers who use their $4,500 rebate. But there's a catch--and a hefty balloon payment disclosed only as a note to an asterisk in Smart's press information announcing the offer. The Smart financing is for $99 a month for 36 months, with a balloon payment of $6,667 due at the end.
