Huge storm batters South West

A MAJOR storm has battered southern parts of the UK, with winds of almost 100mph causing flooding and major travel disruption. The Met Office said wind reached more than 99mph on the Isle of Wight at 5am and the Environment Agency has issued 14 flood warnings for the South West, as well as 146 flood alerts for the rest of England and Wales. Both Severn bridges are closed, the A249 Sheppey Crossing in Kent is closed due to strong winds and there are 30mph speed limits on the Dartford Crossing in Kent There are also widespread reports of local roads in Cornwall, Dorset, Hampshire and Sussex blocked or closed due to fallen trees and flash flooding.

Range Rover Sport ploughs into basement flat

This supercharged Range Rover Sport found itself stuck between a brick and a hard place when it crashed into a basement flat in Fitzrovia, central London. The driver, who was unhurt in this week's accident, unintentionally tested the Range Rover's off-road credentials in a freak incident, which left the 2.5-tonne SUV stuck between a house wall and some railings in the posh London street. Raikkonen win for Ferrari in Belgian Grand Prix

Kimmi Raikkonen wind for Ferrari at Spa-Francorchamps But the big winner of the day was Force India, with Giancarlo Fisichella taking his car to an astonishing second place. And there was no luck in the position either, both Fisichella and the Force India were strong enough to have won with a little more luck. Starting from pole, Fisichella was blitzed down the long straight by Raikkonen’s KERS, but managed to hustle the tail of the Ferrari to the end, finishing just 0.9 seconds adrift at the end.
