VW will build small run of XL1 plug-in hybrid

Volkswagen will begin production of its XL1 plug-in hybrid in two years. "We want to go into series production with this car starting in 2013," VW chairman Ferdinand Piech told Automotive News Europe on Tuesday at an event in Doha, Qatar, ahead of the 2011 Qatar auto show where VW unveiled an XL1 prototype. M6 toll under fire on its 10th anniversary

THE M6 TOLL Road has reached its 10th anniversary but faces criticism that it only carries half the number of vehicles originally anticipated. Launched in 2003 as a 27-mile stretch of relief road around Birmingham, the M6 Toll runs between Cannock and Coleshill. However, roads campaigners say it has not benefitted to local area or the UK roads network.

A corporate spokeswoman at Aston Martin confirmed the news to CAR magazine ahead of an official announcement at 10.00am today. 'We are delighted he's joining us,' she said.
