Air Systems BB50-CO, Breather Box. Standard Breathing Air Filtration System

The Air Systems BB50-CO standard grade-D breathing-air filtration system is a portable source of breathing air for up to four workers in environments where the air quality has been compromised. The four respirator couplings on the unit have safety locks to secure the breathing hoses (not included) to the filtration unit. Air is moved into the unit by a compressor (not included), where it is filtered in three stages to provide grade-D quality air as specified by ANSI/Compressed Gas Association (CGA) air quality standards. Through three filtration stages, the unit removes approximately 99.99% of airborne contaminants down to 0.01 micron. The first stage removes bulk liquid and particulate matter; the second stage removes oil and ultra-fine particulates, and the third stage eliminates organic vapor and odor. Each filter indicates when it needs to be replaced. The first- and second-stage filters automatically drain. The third-stage filter requires manual draining.

The Air Systems BB50-CO comes with an inline carbon monoxide (CO) monitor that detects when CO concentration levels exceed 10 parts per million (ppm) and sets off a warning light and alarm to alert workers. The system's case is aluminum and has a built-in handle for portability. The system includes a pressure gauge, a pressure regulator for controlling air flow to the respirator masks, a visual flowmeter that confirms air is flowing to the CO monitor, and a remote DC alarm jack with cover cap for attaching an optional remote alarm. A safety-release valve at the outlet keeps system pressure from exceeding 125 pounds per square inch (psi).

Meet the new Goodyear blimp -- er, airship

Mon, 17 Mar 2014

A new blimp comes around only once in a while, and Goodyear slowly replacing its fleet is cause for fanfare. These new airships, as yet unnamed, will fly farther, go faster and carry more people than ever before -- and none of it would be possible without help from the Germans. This newest airship is a collaboration between Goodyear and ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik -- yes, of that Zeppelin fame -- and the partnership has historical precedent.
