EU new car CO2 targets pushed back
Wed, 27 Nov 2013The European Union’s plans to cap new cars to 95g/km CO2 by 2020 has been delayed, after months of lobbying led by Germany. Instead, the 95g/km target will be introduced a year later in 2021, but with an additional amount of flexibility intended to make the transition easier – especially for luxury carmakers such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which generally build bigger, heavier vehicles. It’s almost exactly a year since we had the last addition to the Mercedes SLS range when MB took the roof off the Gullwing to give us the SLS AMG Roadster. And now the range of SLS road cars is about to double with the addition of a more powerful SLS Coupe and Roadster in the guise of the new Mercedes SLS AMG GT.
