Nissan LEAF becomes London Taxi
Tue, 26 Jun 2012Nissan has been ferrying Londoners and tourists round the capital in the Nissan LEAF EV free of charge as part of its ‘Big Turn On’ campaign. Yesterday we reported that a Nissan LEAF was going to go backwards up the hillcimb at Goodwood in a bid for a reversing speed record, and to draw attention to the LEAF’s strengths as part of Nissan’s ‘Big Turn On’ campaign. We’re not too sure how being able to go backwards as quickly as you can forwards in a LEAF is a big selling point, but Nissan’s stunt in London this week is far more relevant – they’ve been offering fee taxi rides in the electric LEAF to tourists and Londoners alike.
New ‘flash-for-cash’ insurance scam warning
Fri, 16 Aug 2013Newspress Motorists are being warned about the rise of a new type of ‘crash-for-cash’ insurance scam dubbed ‘flash-for-cash’, which involves criminals flashing their headlights to let innocent victims out of side roads, then driving straight into them. Flash-for-cash incidents are said to be costing the UK car insurance industry £392 million a year – which means the scam is adding as much as £50-£100 to every ordinary driver’s insurance policy. Car insurance – scams and mythsMassive car insurance fraudsCompare car insurance As with better-known cash-for-crash schemes, where a criminal deliberately brakes their car for no reason so the person behind crashes into them, the major problem with tackling this kind of crime is that it’s difficult to prove.
McLaren P1 lapping the Nurburgring in UNDER 7 minutes in stunning new video
Thu, 05 Dec 2013The McLaren P1 laps the Nurburgring in under 7 minutes Ever since Ron Dennis claimed the McLaren P1 would be able to lap the Nurburgring in under seven minutes, we’ve been waiting for McLaren to prove it. It seems their initial attempts failed to get below the magic 7 minute barrier – unlike the Porsche 918 Spyder which lapped the Nurburgring in 6m 57s – but last month we reported that the P1 seemed to have achieved its goal by going 10 seconds faster than the Porsche in an almost unbelievable 6 minutes 47 seconds. Unfortunately, we still don’t know officially just how quickly the P1 got round the Nurburgring, but we do now know that it was under 7 minutes thanks to a new video just released by McLaren.
