Saab secures more funds as it seeks to avert collapse

Saab parent Swedish Automobiles has found another financial lifeline in China as the struggling carmaker faces possible legal action from unions over unpaid wages. In a statement this morning, Swedish Automobiles announced that an un-named Chinese firm has placed an order for 582 Saab vehicles, valued at 13 million Euro (£11.5m) with full pre-payment 'expected to be made this week'.  Saab plans to use the funds to pay wages and begin partial payments to component suppliers in order to restart production. Bahrain Grand Prix (2013) RESULT

Nico Rosberg put in a cracking lap in qualifying for the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix to take pole position, but the Mercedes did look like it might have problems with tyre degradation in the race. With Sebastian Vettel lurking alongside and Fernando Alonso right behind, it was a big ask for the German to turn his pole position in to a win, and so it transpired. Alonso managed to briefly get past Vettel at the start of the race, but Vettel soon got his second place back and within a couple of laps had taken Rosberg for the lead.

'Make electric cars loud and safer'

ELECTRIC AND HYBRID cars should be made louder to protect people with eyesight problems, an MP and charities have urged. Mary Glindon (North Tyneside) said the Government should first ensure the vehicles are safe for all road users after pledging millions of pounds in subsidies for the ultra-low emissions market. She believes sound generators should be fitted to the vehicles to ensure visually-impaired (VI) pedestrians are aware of them.
