This auction is for a custom reproduction billet aluminum Hood Ornament Insert (in RED) for the 1961, 1962 and 1963 Rambler Americans.   Please Note: this auction listing is ONLY for the Red Aluminum insert, it does NOT include the chrome hood ornament.  I have the ornament itself pictured so you can see what the insert looks like when it's actually put into the ornament. Also note that the original inserts were black in color not red.  I made this one in red because I thought that the red "popped" more than black.

It all started about 8 years back when my own '62 american was missing it's Hood Ornament Insert.  The hood ornament looked downright ugly without the insert (I included a picture of the hood ornament missing it's insert).  I first went to a popular online rambler parts supplier to see if they had one.  They said they had a "reproduction" of one, and I bought one.  When I received it, it was just a stinking vinyl sticker!  It lasted all of 2 months on the car. One high pressure car wash, and "adios" expensive vinyl decal.

Being a long-time CNC machinist, i decided I could do better than that.  In fact some of you may remember seeing my '64-'69 Rambler American Hood Emblems also.  I took some billet aluminum, and machined the raised rambler "R" logo into it.  I notched it, just like the original emblems were, and painted them Red. I used a "Multi-Metal" epoxy to bond my emblem into the hood ornament, and there it stayed.  It was not coming out.  And it looked great.  I no longer have that car, but I do still have a few emblems left that I've decided to list at no reserve and at a VERY low starting bid.

Again, this is machined from solid billet aluminum.  it's not just a vinyl decal.  it's not some thin stamped metal piece (It's about 3/16 inch thick!!!).  I hope the pictures give a good idea of just how nice of a piece this is.

If you still have an "empty" hood ornament on your 61-63 rambler American.  Here's your chance to get a nice looking aluminum reproduction for a fraction of what a NOS, or USED emblem would go for (if you can even find one).

60mph speed limit plans axed in favour of smart motorways

Tue, 08 Jul 2014

Government plans announced early this year to reduce air pollution caused by vehicle emissions by reducing the speed limit on a 32-mile stretch of the M1 have been shelved. The proposals involved lowering the speed limit from 70mph to 60mph, from junction 28 of the M1, near Matlock in Derbyshire, to junction 35a, north of Rotherham. MSN readers back 80mph limit on UK motorways UK motorway to charge moving electric cars But Transport Minister Patrick McLoughlin will announce later today that blanket reductions of speed limits are not the answer, and alternative solutions to improving air quality must be found.

The 2014 Range Rover Evoque went undercover in Frankfurt, picking up VIPs and taking them on a surprise urban off-roading adventure. Hidden cameras were there to catch the whole thing. It may have been a marketing ploy for Land Rover, but we think it worked.

Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends Sports class brings the best Italy has to offer

Mon, 02 Apr 2012

The first Test Drive video game was released back in 1987. The franchise was then owned by Accolade, and it featured the Lamborghini Countach, the Ferrari Testarossa, the Lotus Esprit Turbo, the Porsche 911 Turbo and the C4 Chevrolet Corvette. Though small, that's not a bad selection of cars for a title when video games we're just hitting their awkward adolescent phase.
