Analog Input Cable for SCT Xcal 3 and Xcal 4

Part# SCT 9608

You are bidding on one brand new Analog Input Cable that fits any SCT Xcal 3 or Xcal 4 device. This cable plugs into the SCT device's analog input port on one end, and has bare wires on the other end. These bare wires are to be connected to your device or gauge that outputs a 0 - 5 volt analog signal. Most commonly, these devices are a wideband O2 meter, EGT sensor, boost sensor, or any other 0 - 5 volt sensor you choose. I often use one of these to datalog EGT's or a wideband when tuning.

In the world of car sensors, many (but not all) sensors are designed to output an analog voltage signal between 0 and 5 volts. The SCT devices are built with an analog input port, so that you can import the data from the analog outputs of your device. You will have to connect the analog signal and analog ground wire from your device to the appropriate wires on this cable. This cable is a 6-pin analog input cable. With it, your SCT device can then display or log these sensors, along with all of the other data the SCT device logs.

This cable simply allows you to connect your device's 0 - 5 volt analog output to SCT's Xcal 3 or Xcal 4 analog input port. The cable by itself does not act as any sensor. Just about every wideband O2 meter has an analog output, and for a boost sensor, you can check into GM MAP sensors. The GM MAP sensors come in 1, 2 and 3 bar configurations. 1 bar measures vacuum only, 2 bar measures vacuum and up to 15 psi, and 3 bar measures vacuum and up to 29 psi of boost. You need to know your analog sensor's transfer function, so you can plug that formula into SCT's livelink datalogging software. The transfer function of a sensor determines what a 0 volt output means and what 5 volts means. For example, a common wideband sensor might use 0v = 10:1 AFR and 5v = 16:1 AFR.

I will ship this via USPS Priority Mail.

Please refer to pinout diagram for proper connections. Wire colors may vary over the years, so match the pinout up, not just the wire color. Also make sure you are looking at the analog cable connector from the right viewpoint when you connect the analog input cable to your sensor. It is recommended to solder and heat shrink the connections. Some cables may have stripped wire ends, or it may be a complete cable with two ends, and you can cut the correct end off to the desired length.

Into the Breach: The future of in-car infotainment

Tue, 07 May 2013

In-car infotainment is broken. The best that can be said of the finest systems on the market is that they generally do what one asks of them and don't induce fits of rage. At their worst, they're actively dangerous, spiking the driver's blood pressure, forcing tentative or aggressive behavior at intersections and interchanges—and generally taking the driver outside the flow of traffic.

Sat, 19 Mar 2011

Yasmin Le Bon and the original E-Type Roadster at Goodwood FoS Preview It’s a cold, wet and miserable day and feels more like November than March. So it’s hard to think in terms of the sun shining on the Goodwood Estate, and cars roaring up the Hillclimb, as you stand with a cold beer in hand and soak up the atmosphere. But despite the weather it’s time for Goodwood to present to the 2011 Festival of Speed to the press, and yesterday’s preview turned in to something of a Jaguar spectacular.
