Transponder/DME Test Set

The ATC-1200Y3 Test Set contains a built-in crystal-controlled signal generator, attenuator and modulators. It is intended to work in combination with a dual trace oscilloscope to give a absolute bench test of the necessary features of civil ATC Transponders and DME sets. The ATC-1200Y3 system is capable of simulating a DME or Transponder ground station.

The Test Set has all the RF hardware to test a DME or Transponder. This hardware has a circulator to lead the transmitter power to a dummy load and power monitor, and to lead the signal generator to the receiver in the DME or Transponder. RF monitors are incorporated for looking the transmitter output and the input to the receiver. A diode switch in sequence with the signal generator is used to modular the signal generator to acquire above 80 dB on-off ratio for the transponder interrogation and above 85 dB on-off ratio in DME mode.

Characteristics

  • Measures peak power and transmitter frequency
  • 0.01 mile digital ranging steps from -1 to 999.89 NM

Hyundai Suicide ‘Advert’ causes a rumpus

Fri, 26 Apr 2013

It’s not easy advertising your wares and finding the right balance between mainstream and innovative to capture attention, as Hyundai has found out to their cost with an ‘advert’ for the hydrogen powered ix35 FCEV which, rather distastefully, depicts a man trying to commit suicide by running a hose from the tailpipe to the cabin before realising he can’t achieve his aim as the FCEV’s only emissions are water. It’s a proper cock-up from Hyundai – usually so sure-footed with their PR – but, despite Hyundai US putting the blame at the door of Hyundai UK, there’s more to this suicide ‘advert’ than meets the eye. It seems the suicide video was put together by Innocean – a European Ad Agency owned by Hyundai’s Chairman Chung Mong-koo and his daughter, and responsible for much of Hyundai’s marketing output – and was a clumsy attempt to gauge reaction to the somewhat macabre take on the benefits of an FCEV.

Where is Kinetic Design headed?

Tue, 28 Sep 2010

Martin Smith has been guiding Ford of Europe's design efforts since he was appointed to the position of Executive Design Director in 2004, coming straight over from an illustrious career at General Motors. During his tenure as Director of Design at GM Europe, Smith oversaw the Insignia concept car as well as much of the Opel range, including the acclaimed Astra. At Ford, Smith spearheaded the automaker's 'Kinetic Design' strategy and has since presented this vision in both concept and production car form.

Acura NSX details emerge

Tue, 14 May 2013

This morning we know a little bit more about the return of the NSX, which will wear the Acura badge in this incarnation, including where it will be made: Marysville, Ohio. Specifically, in a building adjacent to Honda's Marysville auto plant. The 184,000-square-foot building was once Honda's North American logistics facility, before that it was a seat factory and at one time Honda made transmissions inside.
