Attitude Gyro Indicator F9f Cougar & Hup Retriever Usnavy San Diego H-5 1954 on 2040-parts.com
Danville, California, United States
This offer is for a 1950's-era Attitude Gyro Horizon Indicator as used in the US Navy/Marine Corps Fighter Jet Grumman F9F-5 Cougar and the HUP-1,-3 Helicopter, made by Sperry PN 672740 as a "fast-erecting" gyro (as it fast as it could be in the early 1950's). It also has the USN stock # of R88-I-1331, linking it to the F9F-5 as seen in the F9F Flight Manual (see photo of page from manual dated 1955). The gyro was also named as a Type H-5, but is not labeled as such. In the photo gallery, see the illustrations of the location of this gyro on the instrument panels of the F9F-5 and the HUP-1 from their flight manuals.
This particular instrument has an Inspection label from Naval Air Station San Diego, dated 4-54. The knob adjusts the indexing 'aircraft' within the dial to align the perspective of the pilot to the horizon indicator. It is in terrific shape for its age. The glass and case are intact and the dial markings are clear and precise. The horizon sphere rotates freely, but requires the correct electrical input to function properly. Measures ~3.5 inches diameter and ~8 inches long. Would be a very nice addition to your collection. Please note that seller does not represent that this specific instrument was actually removed from any aircraft cited in the description, but that any documentation referenced here is evidence that it is the same type number and/or manufacturer's part number, used in these aircraft, or if such numbers are not available, the item closely resembles photos of the aircraft's instrument panel. We do our best to link instruments to specific aircraft, but Buyer accepts responsibility to perform the research to verify the item's use in specific aircraft. 2BAnAviator is presenting vintage military aircraft instruments from the 1940's, 50's, 60's, and 70's, ready for casual or serious collectors interested in aviation history. Mon, 02 Jul 2012The new Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Paris Motor Show. When we had the reveal of the new Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake last week we bemoaned the fact that all the UK was getting was a pair of diesel-powered CLS’s. But we did point out, despite nothing official from Mercedes, that there was a good chance they were going to take a camouflaged version of the one petrol powered CLS the UK should eventually get – the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake – to Goodwood at the weekend.
