This offer is for a 1950's-era Attitude Gyro Horizon Indicator as used in the US Navy/Marine Corps Fighter Jet Grumman F9F-5 Cougar and the HUP-1,-3 Helicopter, made by Sperry PN 672740 as a "fast-erecting" gyro (as it fast as it could be in the early 1950's). It also has the USN stock # of R88-I-1331, linking it to the F9F-5 as seen in the F9F Flight Manual (see photo of page from manual dated 1955). The gyro was also named as a Type H-5, but is not labeled as such. In the photo gallery, see the illustrations of the location of this gyro on the instrument panels of the F9F-5 and the HUP-1 from their flight manuals.

This particular instrument has an Inspection label from Naval Air Station San Diego, dated 4-54. The knob adjusts the indexing 'aircraft' within the dial to align the perspective of the pilot to the horizon indicator.  It is in terrific shape for its age.  The glass and case are intact and the dial markings are clear and precise. The horizon sphere rotates freely, but requires the correct electrical input to function properly. Measures ~3.5 inches diameter and ~8 inches long.  Would be a very nice addition to your collection.

Please note that seller does not represent that this specific instrument was actually removed from any aircraft cited in the description, but that any documentation referenced here is evidence that it is the same type number and/or manufacturer's part number, used in these aircraft, or if such numbers are not available, the item closely resembles photos of the aircraft's instrument panel.  We do our best to link instruments to specific aircraft, but Buyer accepts responsibility to perform the research to verify the item's use in specific aircraft.

Note that items are sold for collectors.  Unless otherwise specified, seller makes no representation of the item’s serviceability or fitness for use in an aircraft other than for static display.

New Hyundai i30 (2012): The marketing begins

Sat, 04 Feb 2012

The marketing begins for the new Hyundai i30 With the 2012 Hyundai i30 due to arrive in the UK in March, Hyundai are starting to promote the car that aims to take on the VW Golf and Ford Focus. The new Hyundai i30 for 2012 arrived at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in September, and it caused a bit of a stir. Not just because it’s a good looking car, well built and keenly priced, but because VW boss Martin Winterkorn seemed so taken by it.

New Bentley SUV teased

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

The new design for the Bentley SUV teased There’s little doubt Bentley will make a success of its SUV, despite the original EXP 9 F Concept getting far more brickbats than plaudits. So Bentley have been back at their drawing boards making the Bentley SUV (which could be the Bentley Falcon) look more like a Bentley, and the tease is now beginning for its arrival in Bentley showrooms in early 2016 with a single photo (above). As expected, Bentley has replaced the blunt Mulsanne-like front end of their SUV with a nose that looks like its been taken from the Flying Spur, and no doubt added a few more curves on the bits we don’t see in the tease photo.
