Jail warning for drive ban killers

DISQUALIFIED drivers who kill while behind the wheel will face longer jail terms under tougher sentences announced by Justice Secretary Chris Grayling. Offenders who defy driving bans will be hit with up to 10 years in prison if they cause death and up to four years for serious injuries under the law reforms, which will be introduced next year. Mr Grayling said the changes would send a clear message to drivers who flout bans and "go on to destroy innocent lives".

New car emissions lowest ever

THE AVERAGE CAR in the UK now emits an average of 128.3g/km, the lowest ever and almost 30% less than in 2000. This means the UK has exceeded the target set by the European Union for average CO2 emissions of 130g/km by 2015. The next target is 95g/km that is set for 2020.

Road management proposals 'could save millions'

£2.6 MILLION IN TAXES could be saved over the next decade by reforming how roads are managed, the Department for Transport has said. Roads Minister Robert Goodwill unveiled a consultation on turning the Highways Agency into a Government-owned company. In a statement to MPs, Mr Goodwill said the reforms would mean the creation of a "road user watchdog" similar to Passenger Focus on the railways.
