May 2009: UK new car sales and trends analysis

By Peter Adams Motor Industry 04 June 2009 12:00 The scrappage scheme was supposed to give the UK car market a massive boost, but latest figures out today show new car registrations are still down by more than a quarter. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reports that new car registrations fell 24.8% in May 2009 to 134,858 units. However, this fall marks an improvement on earlier months of the year.

One Lap of the Web: Rags to riches, Beetles to Porsches

-- Joseph MacDonald parked his 1965 Beetle in front of a restaurant 41 years ago, and that was the last time he saw it. He might yet see it again today, as his stolen car -- now painted white, and with even more rust -- will reunite with him, through the providence of border patrol officers actually performing some due diligence. Jason Torchinsky -- who knows a thing or two about stolen Beetles -- notes that he was lucky enough not to have waited 40 years for his car to come back.

Webinars: Autodesk Visualization

Autodesk's last Webinar in the recent four-part series, dubbed 'Visualization', is now available to view online for those who missed the live event. The Webinar's aim was to teach participants how its new visualization technology can enhance the design development process. It also showed how it helps to share designs with peers and looked at the different visualization technologies and where they fit into the process. Robin Oldroyd of Autodesk presented the Webinar and explained which tools are used at different stages of the design process. Oldroyd has strongly focused on Industrial design and visualization during his six-year stint at Autodesk, and has an in-depth of knowledge of solutions for creative design in Automotive, Transportation and consumer products.
