With the increase of operational physical constraints on our road networks and distribution depots in the US, damage to front bumpers and step assemblies become costly, cutting into operator's profits. The Corner Detection system (CDS) is an ultrasonic sensor system designed to warn and assist drivers of their vehicles position whilst carrying out restricted manoeuvres. By reducing the number of accidents caused in low speed and turning maneouvers, we inadvertently reduce vehicle and driver downtime and outgoing cost. Accidents cause damage and reduce profits Accident injuries. Costs with staff downtime and medical costs. E.g. Someone who has been hit and injured or even a fatality. The smallest of accidents can result in some costly repairs. With modular bumpers carrying integrated lighting, impacts to this area of the vehicle are now more expensive than ever. 3rd party damage. These are unpredictable costs and range from walls, fences, bollards, vehicles etc. These not only reflect on your running profits, but also on the 3rd party's profits. Vehicle downtime. Vehicles that aren't on the road when they should be, are costing you money! Drivers that are unable to perform their duties due to no available vehicle can perform other tasks, but is primarily non-productive. The benefits Reduced vehicle downtime. Reduced downtime of operators/employees. Driver awareness is increased through repetition and their ability to judge distances from vehicle to objects is increased. Additional focus is placed on this area of the vehicle being a potential hazard. How It Works The Corner Detection system is a modern supervisory system on an ultrasonic basis specically designed for HGV’s and lorries. When the vehicle slows to around 10Mph, the FCD monitors the area on the front nearside and/or farside of the vehicle during the turning procedure. If an object is detected, it then warns the driver visually, and then nally with an audible tone through the display/buzzer, of any obstacles that may be in its path. The system is designed to offer assistance whilst turning into tight areas and that the driver should still use caution when turning. The FCD system consists of a 4 Ultrasonic sensor eyes (2 to be mounted on the front bumper and 2 to be mounted on the nearside bumper/ step and wheel arch), a display with internal piezo tone buzzer (to be mounted on the A-Pillar, at side mirror height, facing towards the driver’s position) and a Control Module (to be mounted behind the dash). UK new car average CO2 now under 140g/km

Wed, 16 Mar 2011

UK motor industry body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) claims 56% of new cars sold in the UK during 2010 boasted carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions figures below 140g/km. New car emissions of CO2 continued to fall at an increased rate year-on-year, dropping 3.5% over 2009’s figures and representing a cumulative drop in new car CO2 emissions of 20.3% since 2000.  The data comes from the release of the SMMT’s annual New Car Carbon Dioxide (CO2) report for 2011, out today. UK vehicle fleet CO2 continues to fall The presence of lower-polluting new vehicles in the overall UK vehicle parc (the total fleet of new and existing vehicles on the roads) has driven parcwide CO2 levels down 7.8% since 2000, and 2.7% since 2009.  This is partly thanks to new vehicles, and also due to reduction of higher-polluting vehicles via legislation and scrappage incentive schemes. The overall reduction also comes in spite of an increased number of vehicles on the road, and greater average distances travelled compared to 2000. Diesel’s rise continues One notable trend has been market penetration of diesel-powered cars. In 2000 petrol powered cars held 85.9% of the market, with 14.1% diesels.
