According to Sports Car magazine: Author and autocross addict Richard Newton has covered every aspect of autocross from car and class selection to setup and driving. Autocross is open to just about anyone with a helmet and a car. Aimed at all those autocross drivers who race the cars they drive every day, this thorough and easy-to-follow handbook covers everything from choosing the best class and car for competing to tuning, modifying, and racing that car. Richard Newton, an ASE-certified Master Technician, talks in a reader-friendly fashion about what can be done, why it should be done, and what might need to be altered when conditions change. He discusses the rule book and driving techniques used in autocross events. Featuring helpful full-color illustrations, this guide covers all engine/drivetrain combinations, and focuses on car subsystems, including engine, suspension, wheels and tires, and brakes, among others. The book includes drawings of course set-ups, as well as a complete reference appendix. 160 Pages

Honda FCEV hydrogen Concept teased for Los Angeles Auto Show Car makers are all starting to vie for a piece of the hydrogen-powered market for road cars that is starting to develop, and Honda is now joining the fray with the Honda FCEV Concept. The Toyota FCV has already been revealed as debuting at the Tokyo Motor Show and now Honda are in on the act with their own FCEV heading for a debut at Los Angeles later this month. Honda say the FCEV Concept previews a 2015 production model for the US and Japan – and other markets later – and comes more than a decade after Honda first started leasing hydrogen fuel cell cars to a handful of fleet users.

Whos Where: David Wilkie joins Mindset

Tue, 30 Sep 2008

Design Director, David Wilkie, announced last week that he is leaving Bertone to take up a full time position at Mindset AG. Mindset is a new company run by Murat Günak, previously head of Design at Volkswagen, that is developing the electric ‘Commuter' car previewed by Car Design News in February this year. Car Design News spoke with Wilkie about the move, who explained that he'd been working for Mindset part time, leading the design of the Commuter interior for several months now, but "I decided that for the good of Bertone, and for Mindset, that I needed to commit full time to one position; and the appeal of having my hands-on as a designer was very strong; and it's a project I really want to see through properly!" Wilkie is still committed to carrying through several projects at Bertone over the next few weeks as he makes the transition to working with Günak with whom he studied at the Royal College of Art.
