Brand:Autohelm Combi WHEEL STEERING AUTOPILOT Manufacturer Part Number:Autohelm Nautech Combi 3000 Wheel Autopilot

This Autohelm Nautech Combi 3000 Wheel Steering Autopilot is used, in very good condition. The owner couldn't bear to GIVE IT UP WITH THE SHIP when he sold her. Instrument is complete- It comes with the factory Drive ring with three wheel clamps (Three are typically used with a six spoke wheel), the drive belt, a mount for the instrument, drive motor and the Autohelm 'Nautech' instrument itself. Unit shows some typical signs of use-There are numerous photos to show it's condition.

This is a VERY SIMPLE, PRACTICAL AND EASY TO INSTALL INSTRUMENT, which can prevent the installation and use of a very expensive unit. The drive drum bolts on to the spokes of the existing wheel (Usually a stainless steel 'Destroyer' wheel) , and is driven by the powerful motor, which is quickly engaged or disengaged by flicking the clutch lever on the mount. In addition, this is a great unit to use with TRADITIONAL wooden wheels. (I have seen this exact unit mounted on an early Gaff-Riggers wooden wheel- This is sometimes the ONLY way to adapt an autopilot to vintage boats. (Threaded brass wheel clamps can be quickly bent of brass thread rod, if necessary, to secure the drive ring to larger diameter wooden spokes.) The instrument can be mounted on the Pedestal, or in any convenient vertical surface in the Cockpit or Wheelhouse - There is a photo from the manual which shows the details of the simple mounting..

In addition, this instrument and motor have the advantage of being able to be quickly and easily removed by sliding out a single Stainless pin with ring , for STORAGE BELOWDECKS OR OFF THE BOAT. (Preventing the unit from "Walking Off", as well as minimizing Marine Exposure.)

Installation and operation is very simple and intuitive. A free PDF Manual 'Combi Autohelm 3000 Installation and Operating Handbook'' is available on the Internet. Manual is comprehensive and will answer any questions about installation or operation.

Instrument measures about 4 1/2" at the widest point, and stands about 5" tall. Drive Motor is marked 'Autohelm 3000'. Motor is about 8 3/8" long and the drive drum is 11 1/4" across. Mount has a quick release stainless pin which allows easy motor removal for storage. A teak mount will be provided for the compass instrument. Drive belt is provided- Should a different length be desired, they are inexpensively available on Ebay or the Internet. Unit shows very light marks of use, still looking very good. There are numerous photos to show its details and condition.

Electrical hookup is a simple 12 volt, two wire connection.

I have powered this unit up, and it works fine. The motor operates powerfully with no untoward noises, and advances properly according to the demands of the instrument. The instrument is quite simple to use- The course is dialed on the top compass, while the instrument is in the 'Set' position, and then it can be 'fine tuned' in small increments by a touch on the small tab on the front- Very fast, accurate and simple to use. Unit has several positions to compensate for sea state and set and drift.

A great safety tool to head the boat up while doing sail changes, as well as making for RELAXING PASSAGES as "Otto" hums away, steering a BETTER COURSE than most of us can.

The unit is VERY HIGH QUALITY and is quite heavily made. These are rarely parted with in this condition. A comparable autopilot can cost thousands of dollars, yet this PRACTICAL AND ACCURATE unit is offered with an extremely ....................Low Starting Bid.

Gumpert Tornante: Gumpert get a looker

Wed, 02 Mar 2011

Gumpert Tornante by TOURING We’d long believed that ‘Good looking Gumpert’ was destined to be an oxymoron for ever more. But we were wrong. Because the Gumpert Tornante by TOURING is a good-looking Gumpert, in a butch, don’t-mess-with-me kind of way.

Concept Car of the Week: Dodge M4S PPG Turbo Interceptor (1985)

Fri, 03 Jan 2014

As a major paint supplier of Detroit's big three, PPG would commission every year a car to be used as a pace car in the Indy Car World Series. In 1984 Chrysler began the development of a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive car using an experimental powertrain. To avoid the costs of creating a whole new chassis, the M4S is based on a modified Huffaker tubular chassis with full roll cage taken from the Pontiac Fiero IMSA race car, only lengthened to a 100-inch wheelbase.

Ayrton Senna's Honda NSX for sale

'Never raced or rallied' is a term you'll often see on a classified ad. But if the car was formerly driven by Ayrton Senna, you'd find it a little hard to believe. And even if it had been, would you care?
