U.S. safety officials deny airbag exemption for the Pagani Huayra
Tue, 09 Aug 2011U.S. safety officials have shot down Italian supercar maker Pagani's request that the Huayra coupe be exempted from needing advanced airbags--a move that means Pagani can't legally sell the car in the States. Safety rules require that all new cars sold in the United States be equipped with airbags that can automatically adjust deployment force based on the height and weight of the seat occupant.

Using a new platform that will underpin the next Fiat Brava, the Giulietta uses a mix of steel and aluminium clothed in bodywork that borrows cues from the 8C supercar – sort of – including sweptback headlights and a narrow glasshouse.

According to information given to dealers, the sticker price for base cars is going up by between $480 and $1,150, depending on the model. There is one exception--the sticker price of the top-of-the-line ZR1 is decreasing by $75, to $112,500, including the $975 shipping charge.
