Mercedes has announced the hottest E-class you can buy, the E63 AMG S, will cost from £83,470 in the UK from June 2013. In uprated 'S' guise, the 577bhp/580lb ft exec saloon monster can only be ordered with 4Matic all-wheel drive in left-hand drive markets, but the UK gets only rear-drive cars. Designer Tom Matano part of start-up car company in Louisiana

A new auto company backed by Texas billionaire investor T. Boone Pickens and staffed by former Mazda design chief Tom Matano plans to build "environmentally friendly" vehicles in Louisiana. V-Vehicle Co., of San Diego, will bring about 1,400 workers to a Monroe plant that once belonged to General Motors, according to a statement Wednesday from the Louisiana Economic Development Web site.

In order to promote the launch of the Golf R in the US, Volkswagen has created a series of videos featuring fans of the iconic Euro hatch for a new iPad app. Here Chip Foose, founder of Foose Design and presenter of hit TV show, Overhaulin', tells the story of his first VW Golf, a 1985 GTI. But the highlight of the video is watching Foose produce a marker rendering of the MkII GTI in his own distinct style, usually associated with the hotrod scene.
