A federal plan to require automakers to standardize keyless ignition systems in the wake of Toyota's unintended acceleration problems is likely to mirror industry guidelines issued in January, an automaker group said. Large automakers except Toyota said they already comply with the guidelines crafted by SAE International or plan to do so. These "recommended practices'' seek to counter the variation, driver confusion and safety problems that have ensued since automakers started installing push-button ignition in luxury models.

After the endless teaser stories and photos of cars wearing vestigal disguise, Mini has finally released full details of its cut down, uglied-up two-seat Coupe. The fifth – and most ludicrous - Mini shape comes in Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper SD and John Cooper Works forms and, according to BMW, promises to reward keen drivers with ‘a level of handling and agility unmatched in the small car segment’. We think current champs RenaultSport might have something to say about that.

The Audi RS5 with its active boot spoiler on view

The last time we saw the Audi RS5 out testing at the Nurburgring, it appeared to be pretty much undisguised. The video we had earlier of the RS5 (which has now been removed by YouTube) showed the RS5 lapping the Nurburgring at a fair lick. But it would appear that the car we saw then still had something to hide – a trick rear spoiler.
