The Aisin AW 55-50SN, AW55-51SN, AF23 AF33-5, FA57 RE5F22A is a fully-automatic, five speed, electrically controlled, front-wheel drive transmission. This transmission is currently used by many different vehicle manufacturers, among them are; GM, Infiniti, Nissan, Saab, Saturn, Suzuki, Volvo Lancia, Opel, and Renault. In the GM, Saturn and Suzuki vehicles, the transmission is known as the AF23/33-5. In Saab vehicles it's designated FA 57. Nissan and Infiniti call it the RE5F22A, and in a Volvo it's known as the AW55-50/51SN. This transmission contains three planetary gear sets, three driving friction elements, five holding friction elements (one of which is a servo applied band), two sprags, and a torque converter, which contains a clutch assembly for increased fuel efficiency. The three planetary gear sets provide five forward speeds and one reverse speed. Gear ratio change is fully automatic and controlled through the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The TCM monitors and receives inputs from various electronic sensors, then uses the information to control shift timing, clutch apply control, line pressure control, and torque converter clutch application. This manual will contain overhaul information pertaining to the AF23/33-5, AW55- 50/51SN, and RE5F22A transmission.

Bid to cut car insurance premiums

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

THE COMPETITION WATCHDOG is proposing to impose a cap on replacement vehicle costs following motor accidents as part of a clampdown to help cut premiums for all drivers in the £11 billion private motor insurance market. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said the cap on charges passed to the insurer of the driver who is at-fault in an accident for the cost of providing a replacement vehicle to the non-fault driver, would "more closely reflect the costs incurred and remove significant inefficiencies". The watchdog has previously found that the "complex chain" of claim costs following an accident collectively inflates premiums by as much as £200 million a year.

Revolutionary seat design offers new possibilities

Fri, 03 Aug 2012

Lufthansa has introduced an innovative business class seat, the result of five years of development by design agency PearsonLloyd. PearsonLloyd has decided to move away from the conventional technique of placing seats in different directions to allow reclining and has opted to arrange the seats in a ‘V' formation. This does not mean there is any invasion of personal space – far from it, as when passengers lie down their seat's consoles hide their heads.
