Scotland to ban petrol and diesel cars by 2050?
Wed, 25 Sep 2013The Scottish government is aiming to ban all petrol and diesel cars from towns, cities and other communities by 2050. This is according to a new “Switched On Scotland” document, intended to serve as a ‘roadmap’ towards the future that encourages businesses and private motorists to swap to electric vehicles (EVs). First is the new 9-3 Biopower, a full range of saloon, estate and convertible 9-3s, all powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine that's been modified to run on both unleaded and E85 (85 percent ethanol, 15 percent petrol). The mechanical changes include hardened valves and valve seats, and a new stainless steel fuel tank and ancilliaries, adding up to what's expected to be a £600 premium in the showroom over the standard 9-3.

Fri, 03 Jun 2011The Mercedes B-Class Fuel Cell cars arrive back in Stuttgart Since January Mercedes has been driving round the world with a trio of hydrogen fuel cell cars to demonstrate that the future is all about hydrogen fuel cells, and not about hybrids or BEVs. In the four months since the three Mercedes B-Class Fuel Cell cars left home in Stuttgart at the end of January, they have covered 30,000 km each (that’s around 18.6k miles) and had zero emissions. Which will please the environmentalists no end.
