Government to make UK hub for driverless cars

The government has today announced plans to make the UK a world centre for the development of driverless cars – with a £10 million cash incentive to any town or city that builds a test site for autonomous vehicles. The news comes as part of chancellor George Osborne’s 2013 Autumn Statement – alongside plans to scrap the car road tax disc and freeze fuel duty. The diesel BlueMotion also gets dropped in favour of a petrol BlueMotion offering 68.9mpg from its 1.0 litre 3-pot and there’s a pair of 1.4 litre diesels with 75 or 90PS replacing the old 1.2 and 1.6 litre diesels.

The latest virtual reality car brought to some sort of real world life is the Mitsubishi XR-PHEV Evolution Vision Gran Turismo concept (much like the VW GTI Roadster we saw recently) which is being made available for Gran Turismo 6. Sadly, the XR-PHEV Evolution is just a concept and isn’t intended to proclaim the future of the Mitsubishi EVO, even though it’s an enticing thought.
