VW Golf GTD (2013) first pictures of diesel hot hatch

VW's Golf GTD - a performance diesel brother to the GTI hot hatch - is here. Rated at 182bhp and 280lb ft, it boasts more punch than the old GTD (an extra 12bhp and 14lb ft), and scores better fuel economy too: up 14mpg to 67.3mpg, if you opt for the six-speed manual gearbox. Anxious parents back tougher learner driver rules

PARENTS of young people are anxious about their offspring driving - with nearly three quarters in favour of probationary licences being given to new drivers. In a survey conducted ahead of the Government Green Paper on improving young drivers' safety, 82% of those questioned said the thought of their child driving on British roads made them feel anxious. A total of 60% said that was because of their lack of experience.

UPDATE: Jack Roush, injured in plane crash, transferred to Mayo Clinic

Jack Roush was transferred on Wednesday evening to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., to receive treatment for facial injures sustained in a plane crash, his company said. Roush, 68, is co-owner of Roush-Fenway Racing and chairman of Roush Enterprises, a supplier most famous for customizing Ford Mustangs. He crashed his plane during landing on Tuesday at an airport in Oshkosh, Wis.
