Up for auction is a custom Reed roller camshaft for a BB Chevy.  This cam was built to my specs for a 480ci asphalt supermodified engine.  Lift and duration: Int: .765 / 282 at .050. Exh: .708 / 300 at .050.  Yes this is an aggressive cam...

Here's the interesting part.  This is what is known as a 4/4 pattern cam.  It essentially turns the V8 into 2 4 cylinder engines, connected by the crank.  The firing order for a standard Chevy is 18436572.  This cam converts the firing order to 15736842.  No special crank or other parts are needed, just re-arrange some plug wires.

Why?  Well, a couple of reasons.  The standard firing order fires cylinders at opposite ends of the engine twice (1,8 and 7,2).  This causes a lot of "whip" in the crankshaft and affects timing and efficiency.  The 4/4 pattern also broadens the torque curve.  In my engine, this cam made 748 lb ft. of torque , but it also made over 600 lb ft from 3500 to more than 7500 rpm.  YOUR RESULTS WILL VARY.  The exhaust sounds just like a 500 cubic inch Ferrari would.

Now the downside, this cam design does not like a single 4 bbl carburetor, and is best suited to a port or ITB (stack) injection fuel system.  The cam alone cost me $750 new.  Reed is now out of business, and I'm not aware of any other companies that will grind 4/4 cams for public sale (it's kind of top secret).  I'm selling it because the engine has been re-purposed, and this cam is no longer suitable.  I'd like to see someone else benefit from this technology.

Video walkthrough of the Lexus LF-A interior below The Lexus LF-A – the new Lexus Supercar – has had a fair bit of coverage of late here on Cars UK. Prior to the reveal of the LF-A we had Dutch car journo Thomas Bangma telling us that the LF-A was the best driving car ever (we’re sure it’s wonderful – but the best ever?). We then had the reveal of the LF-A at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, when it was revealed that the LF-A will cost upwards of £300k and just 500 will be built.

Cadillac teases Detroit 2013 concept at Pebble Beach

Tue, 21 Aug 2012

Cadillac teased a new concept car at the weekend at Pebble Beach to be unveiled in the steel at an unnamed American auto show early next year. We'll see you on the GM stand in Detroit then. During a press event Cadillac's Global Design Director Clay Dean said it was time for the brand to "reflect back not for nostalgia, but what made us great at the time." There were no further details about what we can expect from the concept but from what we can see from these renders is what appears to be a further move away from the geometry of the Art and Science form language towards a more sculptural surface treatment intersected by sharp, precise creases.

Tips for Getting the Best Car Finance Loan

Thu, 18 Sep 2014

If you want flexibility when purchasing a new car a personal loan is probably your best bet. With a standard personal loan, your loan will be unsecured i.e. will not be secured against the car and as a result you will be free to sell the vehicle at any time.
