If you are reading this chances are you don't necessarily like the wheel gap presently in your C4 rear end. In years past, the options for the ride height of your C4 was limited to the OEM ride height, the 10" rear bolts sold by many Corvette aftermarket retailers and coilovers. BDE-Systems is now proud to carry to market the same kit we use in our street/strip cars, the 1984-1996 Corvette C4 Rear Lowering Kit - Bolts & Nuts Only with the mainstay 11" BOLTS.

Stock Bolt Lenght - 9.00 inches

Common Aftermarket Lowering Bolt Lenght - 10.00 inches

BDE-Systems Lowering Bolt Lenght - 11.00 inches

Our Class 8.8 bolts are certified to DIN 931 so quality and strength is guaranteed. The added 1" over our competitors allows for increased lowering and adjustability so we've made these part of our Complete Kit and also our ESSENTIALS KIT - if you need adjustability past this range, you may be needing a look at coilovers; otherwise, this is the preferred and recommended bolt length by BDE-Systems for C4 Corvettes.

To round off our lowering kit we've included a well known and trusted brand in the suspension realm - ENERGY SUSPENSION

Even hear the rear of your Corvette squeak and squeal? Or perhaps notice a slight height difference between each side? It could be that your original crushed rubber pads have gone out on you. When replacing the rear bolts, out along will come the OEM GM rubber pads that will most likely be beat down and cracked so why not take this moment to replace them with Polyurethane? Longer lasting performance polyurethane pads are smart to install whenever the spring assembly is reassembled.

Energy Suspension Polyurethane Rear Leaf Spring Pads

  • Adds a dramatic amount of performance and durability to any vehicle!

  • Helps the vehicle be in control when maneuvering through turns, during standing start accelerations, braking, even over bumps and berms.

  • Made of Energy's HYPERFLEX performance polyurethane.

The Advantages of Lowered/Adjustable Suspension

  • Improved traction and handling. In general, having the vehicle lower to the ground can increase the grip of the tires on the roadway by reducing the suspesnion travel in order to have body weight and momentum shifted to the rear wheels. Additional stiffness can be desired in a suspension, and this is one of the perks that some drivers mention after lowering their suspensions.
  • Body roll reduced. When the center of gravity is lowered one generally reduces body roll which in turn increases the responsiveness of the car. C4 Corvettes aren't known rollover adverse vehicles but if there was a threshold or propensity of it, it would be reduced by lowering it.
  • Stock wheels and body spacing. This may not be news to you C4 Corvette owners out there but the suspension and ride height varies from C4 to C4, as evidenced by our C4s as well. Reports vary but we've seen heights from about 27" to close to 30", we attribute this to suspension condition, year & model variances in suspension options and miles on suspension. This kit is an excellent way to remedy those variances and stabilize the rear end.
  • Aftermarket wheels and body spacing. When moving into the aftermarket wheel world it is often a necessity to lower the ride height of ones vehicle to close the wheel gap and achieve that perfect stance. Our 1994 Corvette has 19" aftermarket wheels while our 1987 Corvette has 17" aftermarket wheels (OEM wheels were 16") so the kits allowed us to match the wheels to the ride height very easily.
  • Better aerodynamics. With a lowered suspension, there's less air going underneath the vehicle, and this can create a better outcome for wind drag on a car. GM did design the vehicle with a rake for stability at high speed so keep at rake if that's your intended range - adjusting and monitoring the height at speed in conjunction with adjustments is recommended. The speeds we are talking about are offroad speeds not seen on commercial/commuter/highway roads. In other words, adjusting your height is fine for regular street and highway use without need to worry but if you drive in the 110+MPH range for sustained periods then monitoring/adjustments is recommended.

Enzo Ferrari died 25 years ago today

Wed, 14 Aug 2013

The word “Ferrari” is evocative enough as it is, but add “Enzo-era” to the mix and we imagine a very specific type of machine -- a vehicle that is raw, passionate, perhaps a bit prickly, but above all, utterly unique and irreplaceable. There's a reason Enzo-era Ferraris are magical: Enzo Ferrari himself. Born in 1898, Ferrari joined the Alfa Romeo racing team in 1920, established Scuderia Ferrari in 1929 and put his name on a V12-powered race car in 1947.

Porsche Cayenne hits 250,000 sales

Fri, 06 Mar 2009

“Absolute sacrilege”, they cried, when Porsche announced it was to make an SUV. “Too ugly to drive”, said Clarkson, despite his obvious incredulity at its abilities. Yet despite its inauspicious start in life, the Porsche Cayenne has gone on to be a huge success for Porsche, and the 250,000th Porsche Cayenne has just rolled off the production line at Porsche’s Leipzig plant..
