Daimler takes 10 percent stake in EV maker Tesla

Daimler AG has acquired an equity stake of nearly 10 percent of California electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc., the German automaker said Tuesday. The two companies have been working together to integrate Tesla's lithium-ion battery packs and charging electronics into the first 1,000 units of Daimler's electric Smart car. Daimler said its stake in Tesla will allow the companies to collaborate even more closely on the development of battery systems, electric drive systems and in individual vehicle projects.

GM's Lutz to retire May 1

General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz plans to retire from the automaker effective May 1, according to a statement released by GM on Wednesday. Lutz, 78, had been serving as a senior adviser to GM Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre after shelving retirement plans to take charge of the automaker's marketing after it emerged from bankruptcy in July 2009. An outspoken executive who both challenged global warming and championed GM's all-electric Volt, Lutz is credited with revitalizing GM's product development efforts after being hired by former GM CEO Rick Wagoner in 2001.

New Land Rover Defender DC 100 at Delhi with new paint job Land Rover has taken newly painted versions – in  Firenze Red – of the new Defender Concept 100 and 100 Sport to the Delhi Auto Expo 2012. Land Rover has been busy at the last two motor shows giving us a glimpse or three of their take on the next generation Land Rover Defender, in the shape of the Defender Concept 100 (DC 100) and Defender Concept 100 Sport (DC 100 Sport). And they’re at it again at the Delhi Motor show, with a pair of freshly painted Concepts on show.
