Bellanca's
Golden Age
book
traces
G.M. Bellanca coming from Sicily to America as a teenager in 1911
through his 42 years of continuous airplane manufacturing operations.
Details the beginnings of the air transportation system over great
distances. Details the first 10 flights over the Atlantic and the
first flight over the Pacific.
Tells
never-before-told stories of Charles Lindbergh, Clarence Chamberlin
and many other Golden Age personalities. Details the story of the
greatest airplane of the 1920s — Bellanca's Columbia,
the
plane Charles Lindbergh wanted for his trans-Pacific flight but
didn't get. As a result, Lindbergh was furious and immediately set
out to build the Spirit
of St. Louis.
In
the 1930s the government tested 209 different airplanes and found
that Bellanca's was the best regarding "efficiency."

About the
Authors:
Alan Abel
and his mother, Drina Welch Abel, published aviation books for 17
years through their publishing company, Aviation Heritage. In 2000
the Abels retired from aviation book publishing.
Since then
they have been authoring and/or co-authoring a series of books, The
Golden Age of Aviation Series,
for another aviation book publisher. In all, the Abels have been
involved in various capacities of the aviation book business
(publishing, research, authoring, marketing and distribution) for 30
years.
The Abels
were born into a pioneering aviation family, the Welch Family
(Drina's maiden name), manufacturer of the Welch Airplane in the
1920s, 1930s and early 1940s.
Because of the family's deep
roots in early aviation leading into WWII, the Abels have been
determined to keep the history of aviation alive, with emphasis on
histories of civil aircraft manufacturing in the Pioneer Era and in
the Golden Age (1900-1950).
In
furtherance of their goal of compiling histories of aircraft of the
Golden Age, the Abels purchased all of the copyrights of the late
Paul Matt upon his death in 1987. Accordingly, The Golden Age of
Aviation Series was written with the inclusion of some of the
writings and 3-view Airplane Scale Drawings of Paul Matt. Matt was an
aviation author, aviation illustrator, aviation photographer,
airplane scale modeler, aviation magazine contributor and aviation
book publisher during the 1960s through the 1980s.
