Motor industry backs EU membership

Thu, 03 Apr 2014

MOTOR MANUFACTURERS have given strong backing for the UK staying in the European Union, citing benefits including business links and free movement of labour. A survey by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that 92% of automotive firms believed that staying in the EU would be best for their business, although most wanted to see reforms. The SMMT said its study showed how EU membership benefited the industry, such as access to a single market and funding for research and development.

Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo (2011) launches

Fri, 09 Jul 2010

The Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo 2011 debuted at Goodwood If you went down to the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend you may well have come across Alpina’s latest offering – the Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo – which, following the news yesterday that BMW have retired the current generation (E60) M5 and that you’ll have to wait intil next year for the new M5 – is the only way to hop in to a brand new ‘Hot’ 5 series for at least the next 9 months. Not only is the Alpina B5 the only really quick 5 series on the market now, it will also be a lot less ubiquitous in the long run than BMW’s own M5. A lot to be said for that.

NO Jaguar SUV says Ian Callum

Tue, 20 Mar 2012

NO Jaguar SUV says Ian Callum Jaguar design boss Ian Callum has stated that Jaguar are NOT planning an SUV but could build a crossover. Ever since Jaguar’s Brand Director Adrian Hallmark said that Jaguar needed a crossover there’s been much speculation (from Cars UK just as much as elsewhere, we confess) that a Jaguar SUV is in the planning, despite Land Rover’s pre-eminence in the field. But it looks like we should have listened more carefully to Adrian Hallmark, who actually said Jaguar “…need a crossover and we need to stop being a saloon-based company.” We all leapt on the ‘stop being a saloon-based company’ bit as confirmation an SUV is planned when Adrian actually meant a crossover and not a full-blown SUV.
