Winners of CCS-Michelin Challenge Design competitions announced
Fri, 04 Jan 2013Michelin has announced the winners of the Michelin Challenge Design contest for the College for Creative Studies (CCS). 13 senior students entered this year's challenge, which carried a theme of "Half! Lightweight with Passion." The students were asked to explore inventive concepts of shared mobility to solve personal transportation needs within megacities.
Concept Car of the Week: Italdesign Machimoto (1986)
Fri, 07 Feb 2014The Machimoto might look and sound like a Japanese concept, but it was developed in Europe in the Turin-based Italdesign studio, and was based on a Volkswagen Golf GTI platform. The name actually derives from MACHIna (car in Italian) and MOTOciclo (motorcycle) as the perfect hybrid between the worlds of two- and four-wheelers. Unveiled on its home turf at the Turin motor show in 1986, it landed like a UFO, shocking both the public and the press.
Concept Car of the Week: Ford GT90
Thu, 23 Aug 2012The second edition of ‘Concept Car of the Week' features what was hailed as "the world's mightiest supercar": the Ford GT90. The GT90 was unveiled at the 1995 Detroit auto show and acted as the poster boy of the 'New Edge' design philosophy, with its large, flat planes, angles and triangular shapes it was a major change in design direction. This car, completed in just six months, was something of a successor to the GT40, using some of its design cues such as doors that cut into the roofline, but underneath many components were borrowed from the other cars such as the Jaguar XJ220.
