BLACK MAMBA T04E/T3 (66 mm/ STG V)

Like it's namesake, this turbo strikes fast. We have named this after Africa's fastest poisonous snake because it combines a lethal strike and alarming speed owed to a combination of a air-gobbling 66 mm compressor wheel and quick-accelerating Stage-V Garrett T3 turbine shaft.  The BLACK MAMBA is pretty much the toughest T3 flanged turbo in the land.  This turbocharger has a compact assemblage of housings yet delivers a lethal 780 HP dose of venous boost.  Read on to learn more about this very special hybrid turbo that will have your opponents looking desperately for an antidote.

We have built the CHRA from a proven combination of modified journal bearings and 360 degree thrust components.  These are all modified for increased oil flow and load capacity. We have incorporated full-circumference oil deliver journal bearings into this CHRA to support the turbine shaft in all aspects of rotational load.  Each of the journal surfaces of the turbine shaft are polished to accomplish to goals, increase surface hardness (and therefore resist any chance of being scored by any small debris particles.  The thrust components have large collar surfaces for increased load capacity that we polish to reduce friction as well. Even the oil ports are radiused and chamfered to promote better internal oil flow.  Just part of our unique 'blueprinting' process to reduce internal friction and increase the durability of our 'signature series' turbochargers.  The compressor wheel has a flow design efficient at moving well over 65 lbs per min even at modest boost pressures of around 20 psi. Combined with the authentic Garrett Stage-V turbine wheel, this compressor wheel can easily spin up over 25 psi to deliver an honest 750 HP+ level of airflow.  Wow.  This genuine Inconel alloy turbine wheel has a proven capability of both fast acceleration and high gas flow capacity to support large compressor wheel loads.

The genuine Garrett exhaust housing we have selected as a fitting match for this turbine has a .63 A/R ratio for both excellent spool-up as well as high gas flow levels.   BLACK MAMBA has a compressor housing with a .70 A/R for extremely efficient boost generation from the compressor wheel.  The compressor housing features a large 4" inlet that maximizes available air ingestion into the compressor wheel inducer. Both of these housing are ported to gain even more airflow and exhaust flow capacity and efficiency.  The compressor inlet has a generous radius leading toward the wheel blades which affords the maximum amount of airflow.  Matching this shaping is a flare of the outlet duct outwards to the very edge of the tube exit, thereby eliminating any turbulence and increases airflow out of the compressor housings.  Another step we take to coax even more aerodynamic efficiency from the 66 mm compressor is the polishing of the backing plate.  This increases charge air velocity as it moves from the compressor wheel into the housing scroll.  The exhaust housing has been extensively massaged with carbide burrs and then sanded to make its inlet smooth and turbulence free leading to the turbine blade tips. The overhanging gasket mating surface has been cut away for an unrestricted path for the exhaust gasses to enter the housing. Matching the inlet work is a radiused outlet cut into the exit from the turbine wheel exducer. This is combined with a 3.5" v-band outlet for a high-flow exit into the exhaust system. You read correctly, 3.5" v-band outlet.  The BLACK MAMBA is built to be the nastiest hybrid turbo stalking the streets so this only makes sense.  We have spent a solid 4 hours on these housings to gain an honest 10% in gas and air flow capacity.  You can also enjoy even faster boost response and more airflow throughout the compressor's aerodynamic envelope.

As you can see, this turbo is a lean, swift boost delivery predator. It is ideal for modest displacement powerplants in single turbo 750 HP+ applications and excels in 1560 HP twin turbo systems requiring both high power outputs and quick turbo response.  The BLACK MAMBA deserves respect and a wide birth.  Capture this turbo for yourself and put a lethal bite on your opponents.  By the time your BLACK MAMBA's compressor wail is heard, you'll be showing tail lights to your victim.  Time to notify the next-of-kin.

Thinking Automotive Design

Mon, 17 Oct 2011

At a time when nine new automotive plants are being built in Brazil, the production of local design studios has acquired strong significance in the market. Significantly, the best-selling cars in the country are the VW Gol and the completely new Fiat Uno, both developed locally. It's therefore no surprise that car design gains more importance in the country's cultural scenario.

VL Destino revealed - what became of the Fisker Karma

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

VL This is the new face of the Fisker Karma, the luxury plug-in hybrid whose parent company went to the wall last year. But it’s not only the Karma’s gap-toothed grin that’s disappeared: its plug-in hybrid powertrain has bitten the dust, too, replaced by a GM-sourced V8 – a supercharged lump boasting 638hp and 640lb ft. Called the VL Destino, the wilder Karma will be shown at this month’s North American International Auto Show, aka the Detroit Motor Show.

Land Rover confirms end of Defender production

Thu, 10 Oct 2013

It's been all but a foregone conclusion for some time now, but Land Rover has confirmed to our sister publication Automotive News Europe that the aging Defender won't live to see 2020. Originally conceived as an agricultural machine, the first Land Rover prototype used scavenged Willys Jeep bits left over from World War II. American kids of a certain age may have been captivated by the Land Rover's mystique while watching Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom back in the '70s.
