After Ferdinand Porsche appropriated the basic design for the original Beetle from Tatra designer Hans Ledwinka (but before Tatra successfully sued Volkswagen), Volkswagen turned one innovative rear-engined vehicle platform into quite a lineup of cars and trucks. These days, while some types of air-cooled VW projects are cheap and plentiful, the rarer ones are much-sought-after and tough to find in semi-restorable condition.
JLR announces £16.3m Evoque_e research project

Jaguar Land Rover will work in conjunction with British technology company and race car manufacturer Zytek Automotive to develop new hybrid and battery-electric vehicle technology. General Motors' small Cadillac will take aim at the BMW 3-series
Thu, 28 Oct 2010The new Cadillac model that General Motors announced today will be aimed at the smaller models produced by BMW, Mercedes-Benz and other luxury brands. The rear-drive Cadillac is expected to be called the ATS and to arrive in showrooms in 2012 or early 2013, according to industry sources. “We will have a car positioned below the CTS in our lineup to compete with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C class.,” said Nick Twork, a Cadillac spokesman, during a telephone interview.
