Wed, 18 Aug 2010
A dark cloud hangs over the family of automotive enthusiasts who had enjoyed a sunny week of classic-car events on the Monterey Peninsula.
AutoWeek has learned that Barry Meguiar, the self-described "car crazy" goodwill ambassador of the automotive hobby world and creator/host of the popular television show of the same, is in serious condition in the intensive care unit of Monterey Community Hospital. Details of his ailment were not released by the hospital.
Meguiar, 67, took a small family-owned business and built it into an internationally famous car-care-products company headquartered in Irvine, Calif. 3M acquired the company in 2008. Part of the company business plan was to sponsor and promote car shows and related automotive events. The "Car Crazy" TV show grew out of Meguiar's passion to share stories of the people and vehicles he came in contact with at these events.
