This will certainly brighten up the Detroit Motor Show!
After months of speculation, Mercedes McLaren has announced to the world that the spectacular Mercedes Benz McLaren SLR Stirling Moss will be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in the New Year.
The Mercedes / McLaren collaboration has now come to an end, and the SLR Stirling Moss is the fanfare. And what a fanfare. Based on the last model SLR – the 722 Roadster – the SLR Stirling Moss delivers a huge 650bhp, and gives 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds. And despite having no roof, the SLR Stirling Moss can still manage a top speed of 217mph.
Just 75 of these cars will be produced, and our man at McLaren tells us they are allocated and deposit-paid. Hardly surprising, even in these difficult times.
With just a couple of wind-deflectors at the front, and no real windscreen, the SLR Stirling Moss will give its driver and passenger an unmatched wind-in-the-hair driving experience. There is truly nothing else you can buy that will even come close to the thrill of this car.
Isn’t it nice, in such troubled times, to see something so special still find a place in the world? I don’t think anyone could be churlish enough to see this as an untimely extravagance. It’s simply a glorious tribute to our great motoring heritage.
