2010 Interior Motives Design Awards

Mon, 15 Mar 2010

The eighth annual Interior Motives Design Awards has opened for registration. Themed ‘Driving the Interior Revolution', this year's contest – hosted by our quarterly interior design publication Interior Motives – challenges design students around the world to come up with innovative designs that offer new solutions to the problems and opportunities facing vehicle designers in the 21st century.

Students are tasked with creating a design that fulfills one of the following four briefs, which this year have been set by Volkswagen and Peugeot:

Pay as you go
(set by Volkswagen)
Design a pay-as-you-go vehicle. What are the necessary features? What kind of drivetrain technology, interior packaging and human machine interface (HMI) would be best suited to this kind of car?

Pump up the volume
(set by Volkswagen)
Volume is the future, not vehicle length. Consider the definition of volume and explore new ways of segmenting and laying out a vehicle interior with this in mind.

What if the world...?
(set by Peugeot)
Imagine how the world will develop in the future and create an interior that fits that scenario.

Mobility toolbox
(set by Peugeot)
Big or small, high or low, wide or narrow, urban or highway – design the ultimate modular/multi-mode vehicle for the society of tomorrow.

The competition is open to students enrolled at any accredited undergraduate or graduate design degree programme, both in automotive and non-automotive disciplines; those studying fashion design, industrial design, architecture and other fields are eligible. Entries must have been designed during the current 2009/2010 academic year, and the closing date for submission is 18 June 2010.

The judging panel will select winners for each of the ten Interior Motives Awards categories, which range from Best Conceptual Interior and Best Use of Technology to Best Eco Design. A shortlist for each one will be created by the judges and announced in August. The three finalists in each awards category will have their work exhibited on the web and in the Winter edition of Interior Motives magazine, and will also be invited to take part in a prestigious awards ceremony in Paris on the evening of Friday 1 October, the second press day of the Paris Motor Show.

Trophies and cash prizes of $500 will be awarded to the winning designs in each of the categories, and a grand prize of $5,000 will be presented to the 2010 Student Designer of the Year.
