2011 Audi A6: Official
Wed, 01 Dec 2010Auid reveals the Audi A6 2011
Yesterday we brought you the first official photo of the 2011 Audi A6 which had leaked out ahead of the planned reveal of the new A6 today. Bang on schedule Audi released all the bumph at midnight last night so we thought we ought to update the story, add in the press release and a gallery full of 2011 Audi A6 photo goodness for your perusal.
The 2011 Audi A6 is very much a replay of the 2010 A8 – evolution, not revolution – and a very strong Audi family theme going on. But what is different – and what is different to almost every new car release – is that the A6 is smaller. Not by much – and only in length – but shorter, nonetheless.
Audi like to proclaim the A6 as the most successful executive car on the planet, but in truth they only manage that because of strong sales in China. In mature Western markets they lag behind the E-Class and 5-Series and now the Jaguar XF.
Not that there’s anything wrong with the A6 – it’s a fine car, and we run a 3.0 litre S-Line quattro ourselves – it’s just not brilliantly individual or stand-out. And in S-Line guise it can be a bit spine-jarring on UK roads. But it’s very well bolted together and the cabin is a model of good design.
That good Audi interior design carries over to the 2011 A6, which seems to have stolen its interior from the Audi A7. Not that that is a bad thing; it’s a very good interior and more involving – and less bland – than the current A6.
The interior sports lots of techy goodies like a Bluetooth Wi-Fi zone in the cabin, heads-up display, 1200W Bang & Olufsen, MMI nav with Google Earth, Night Vision with thermal imaging and Audi Assist. A real techno-fest but presented in a very unintimidating way.
Engines on offer – at least at launch – will be a choice of one petrol and three diesels in either SE trim – the soft option – or S-Line – the sport option and the one that will hold its money best.
The petrol lump is a 3.0 litre TFSI with 298bhp and 325lb/ft of torque. The three diesels are a 2.0 litre TDI with 175bhp and 280lb/ft of torque and two versions of the 3.0 litre – a de-tuned one with 202bhp and a full fat with 243bhp.
The 2011 Audi A6 is too understated to be stunning visually, but it does promise to be a very good place to be and a very good car to drive. Audi has plenty to say so we’ve put up the 2011 Audi A6 press release for you to peruse and there’s a raft of photos below.
Oh, and there will also be an A6 hybrid in 2012 with the same hybrid gubbins as the Q5 Hybrid and the new A6 will go on sale in January
