2011 BMW 5 Series leaks

We’ve seen the next generation, 2011 BMW 5 Series pounding round the Nurburgring in disguise for quite some time. But with the 2011 5 Series due to hit the car shows in 2010 we’ve finally got hold of what appears to be a leak from the Swedish version of the German car magazine Auto Motor & Sport.
The 2011 5 Series is going to be an evolution rather than a revolution. In fact, it looks like it’s taken the best bits from the 3 Series and the 7 series and come up with a strikingly handsome car. The 2011 5 Series shares a platform (although BMW call it a backbone) with the 7 Series and the upcoming replacement for the 6 Series. Engines are likely to rely heavily on turbo charging to keep the power up, the weight down and the emissions in check.
The wheelbase of the 5 Series is expected to grow by an inch or two, providing more interior room and the McPherson Struts are likely to give way to a control arm front suspension. It’s expected that there will extensive use of aluminium for the roof and other body panels to save weight.
As mentioned, there will be more reliance on turbo charging in the 2011 5 Series, and there will certainly be a Hybrid version. The M5 will also get a turbo charged V8 instead of the current V10.
Looks very promising. In essence, it looks like a slightly shrunken 7 Series.
