2011 Peugeot 508: Paris Motor Show 2010
Sat, 02 Oct 2010Peugeo 508 Paris
Well, you wouldn’t expect Peugeot to forget to bring along their replacement for the Peugeot 407 (not to mention the ‘Only sells in France’ 607) to their home motor show, so the Peugeot stand got not just the saloon version of the new Peugeot 508 but a 508 Estate too.
We already know that Peugeot is going to throw almost every engine – petrol and diesel – it has in its arsenal at the 508. so you’ll be able to grab a 508 with anything from a 1.6 litre e-HDi FAP to a 2.2 litre HDi FAP 204bhp. And that’s just from launch.
Give it a bit of time – probably late 2011/early 2012 – and Peugeot will be offering a hybrid version of the 508. Which is not something we’d normally get massively excited about. But with the 508 Peugeot say they will be fitting a 200bhp oil burner in addition to the electric gubbins and batteries.
So if we ignore the ‘It’ll me able to run on elec-trickery for 50 feet’ bit, we can look forward to a very brisk Peugeot 508 sporting effective 4WD with its Hybrid4 System and pushing on 250bhp, which won’t break the bank when you fill it up.
And it’ll have a green halo to silence the eco-mentalists.
