2011 VW Jetta gets launched
Tue, 15 Jun 2010The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta
Volkswagen reckons that this latest Jetta is no longer a Golf with a boot to make a saloon but is instead a completely new stand-alone model, even though under its new skin – inspired by the VW NCC (New Compact Coupe) concept at New York this year – it sits on a stretched (by 70mm) Golf platform.
To make the Jetta stand apart from its Golf sibling VW has fitted the Jetta with an all new dashboard with aluminium highlights and a leather trimmed steering wheel. All Jettas will come equipped with AirCon and CD stereo with touchscreen SatNav an option.
New engines on offer include the 103 bhp 1.2 litre TSI and the 158bhp, twin-turbo 1.4 litre TSI. The 120bhp 1.4 litre TSI and the 197bhp 2.0 litre TSI carry over from the old Jetta. If you want an oil burner you have the choice of the 103bhp 1.6 litre TDI and the 138bhp 20.0 litre.
VW are carrying on with adding BlueMotion wherever they can, so we get a BlueMotion option with either the 1.2 litre TSI or the 1.6 litre TDI. The petrol BlueMotion will achieve 53.2mpg and 123g/km with the diesel BlueMotion managing 68mpg and 109g/km.
The Jetta is VW’s biggest seller in the US, and the extra 70mm on the wheelbase and 90mm overall shouild make this 2011 Jetta even more appealing in the Land of the Large.
The 2011 Jetta won’t go on sale in the UK until early 2011, so more on model details and prices nearer the time.
